What millings can and cannot do
Asphalt millings are recycled pavement containing aggregate and residual binder. They can form a compacted dark surface, but source condition, grading, installation and weather affect binding and finish. Do not expect a new hot-mix asphalt driveway, guaranteed dust elimination or a waterproof seal.
Confirm the exact recycled grade
Our general millings listing is fines to about 1 inch. Specified ½-inch crushed asphalt, coarse 2-to-3-inch asphalt and asphalt sand are separate grades, not interchangeable names. Request current size and source-condition information before a large or appearance-critical order. An illustrative product photo is not proof of a particular incoming load.
Millings versus road base
Road base and limestone flex base contain a graded aggregate blend for a compacted foundation. Millings are a recycled surface option, not an automatic solution for unstable subgrade. Compare the full material, freight and installation cost using current prices below; do not assume recycled always means cheaper.
Prepare and compact for the site
Correct soft spots and runoff before spreading. Have the installer confirm layer depths, moisture requirements and compaction equipment for the actual material. Heat and residual binder can influence behavior, but neither guarantees that a loose dump load will turn into pavement. Steep slopes, frequent heavy traffic and engineered projects need site-specific assessment.
Plan quantities, trucks and maintenance
Calculate each layer independently using the chosen density and minimum. Larger quantities are divided into loads for planning, then dispatch confirms access and scheduling. Freight and tax are separate; beyond 40 miles, request an address-specific quote. Delivery does not include spreading, rolling or sealing. Maintain drainage and address ruts or loose edges at their cause.

Use the depth specified for your project. Calculate each layer or rectangular section separately. No compaction or waste allowance is automatically added.
Enter positive length, width and depth to see volume, tons and material cost.
Request a delivered quotePlanning estimate only. Moisture, source density and compaction affect actual quantities. Confirm finished depth and any allowance with your installer. Standard delivery bands end at 40 miles; longer hauls need an address-specific quote. Truck access and scheduling are confirmed by dispatch.
