Growing notes
Verbena attracts butterflies and blooms through warm weather. Good airflow and drainage help prevent mildew.
Preparing the bed for verbena
Central Texas ground is often heavy clay or thin soil over limestone. Loosen clay and add topsoil so water does not pool. Top the finished bed with 2–3 inches of mulch, kept a few inches off the stems, to hold moisture through summer.
