Planting boxwood
Set plants at the same depth they grew in the pot, and space them for their mature width. Shallow roots dry out quickly, so mulch and steady watering matter in summer.
Preparing the bed for boxwood
Central Texas ground is often heavy clay or thin soil over limestone. Mix a garden soil blend into clay so the shallow roots get drainage and air. Top the finished bed with 2–3 inches of mulch, kept a few inches off the stems, to hold moisture through summer.
