Forsythia is a deciduous shrub known for bright yellow flowers in late winter or early spring.

Growing notes
Forsythia is more common in cooler climates and may bloom less reliably in warm Central Texas winters. Prune right after flowering, since it blooms on old wood.
Preparing the bed for forsythia
Central Texas ground is often heavy clay or thin soil over limestone. Loosen clay and blend in topsoil so roots are not sitting in water. Top the finished bed with 2–3 inches of mulch, kept a few inches off the stems, to hold moisture through summer.
