Yaupon is native to Texas and handles heat, drought and a wide range of soils, which makes dwarf forms a popular low-maintenance hedge and foundation shrub.
Preparing the bed for dwarf yaupon holly
Central Texas ground is often heavy clay or thin soil over limestone. Native soil is usually fine; add topsoil only where the ground is very thin over rock. Top the finished bed with 2–3 inches of mulch, kept a few inches off the stems, to hold moisture through summer.
