Caladiums are grown from tubers for their colorful, heart-shaped leaves and brighten shady beds in summer.

Growing notes
Plant tubers once the soil is warm. Caladiums need moisture but will rot in cold or waterlogged ground.
Preparing the bed for caladiums
Central Texas ground is often heavy clay or thin soil over limestone. Fill beds with a loose garden soil blend. Top the finished bed with 2–3 inches of mulch, kept a few inches off the stems, to hold moisture through summer.
